UGJul 25, 2021

The Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which a 33-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his family members.

The deceased is Pius Tugumisirize of Rwesigiro village, Kikarara parish in Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri district.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, on Saturday 24th July 2021 at around 10 pm, the deceased developed a quarrel with his wife Ruth Owakubariho 29 where Tugumisirize hit the wife badly with a hoe on the head and bled furiously.

After the incident, the man took off into hiding himself not knowing that his 10-year-old son had picked the same hoe used to hit the mother and followed him up.

The son met him hiding, hit him on the head leaving him for dead.

The boy went back home and informed the members of what he did to the father which prompted them to pick and rush him to a clinic in Kikarara where he died on Sunday morning.

Maate adds that as all this was happening, the woman went and reported a case of domestic violence not knowing the son had followed and hit the father in revenge.

Police were notified, visited the scene, did a postmortem as well as picking the woman for questioning while the son is on the run.

The case of Murder by assault has been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number CRB 1154/2021 as inquiries are underway.
