Lt. Gen. Muhoozi returns as head of his father’s security, Lokech is the new Deputy IGP


 President Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces has appointed Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new commander land forces in the UPDF.

According to the changes announced on Thursday, Muhoozi who has been the Special Forces commander will now be replaced by Brig Peter Chandia who has been his deputy.

At Bombo, the UPDF land forces headquarters, Kainerugaba replaces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu who has been appointed as the new deputy Chief of Defence Forces.

The changes take immediate effect, according to Museveni’s message.

Muhoozi was appointed back to the Special Forces Command in December last year in sweeping changes that President Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces made in the security set up of the country.

The latest changes mean that the First Son spent only six months in his second stint as the commander of the UPDF elite unit mandated to protect the president and members of the first family.

President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces has made a number of changes in the armed forces in the country.

According to the changes announced on Wednesday, Lt.Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba who has been the presidential adviser of special operations has returned as the commander, Special Forces Command, to replace Maj. Gen.James Birungi.

The SFC is an elite unit that is responsible for the security of the President of Uganda, and special operations since January 2017.

Muhoozi had earlier commanded the unit but was relieved of his duties in 2017 and replaced by Maj.Gen.Don Nabasa.

“Lt.Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba is appointed commandant of SFC but will also retain his appointment as senior presidential advisor handling the security issue he has been handling,” the message by Gen. Museveni reads in part.

“I can confirm the changes in the leadership of the Special Forces Command with Lt.Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba .As SFC we welcome these changes,” said Maj. Jimmy Omara, the SFC spokesperson.

He hailed the outgoing SFC commander, as well as welcome Lt.Gen.Kainergaba back to lead the elite unit that he described as one of the best on the continent.

The changes have also seen Maj.Gen. Paul Lokech who has been in South Sudan on a special assignment to monitor on behalf of the guarantors of the South Sudan peace process, the assembling, screening, demobilization and integration of the armed forces of South Sudan appointed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police to replace Maj.Gen.Muzeeyi Sabiiti who has been sent to the army general headquarters in Mbuya for redeployment.

Maj.Gen,James Birungi has now been sent to South Sudan to replace Maj.Gen.Paul Lokech.

According to the new deployments that take immediate effect, John Martins Okoth Ochola has retained his position as the Inspector General of the Uganda Police Force.

  Parents block Kasokero P/S HM from accessing school premises over drunkenness 10th Jan,2022 Kagadi As schools reopened today across the country, Parents of Kasokero government aided Primary school in Kyenzige town council Kagadi district blocked the school head teacher from accessing the school premises accusing him of incompetence. RIFT VALLEY FEVER KILLS ONE IN KAGADI KAGADI:  One person has died of rift valley fever in Kagadi district. Lillian Ruteraho the resident district commissioner Kagadi has identified the deceased as Justus Mugisa 34, a resident of Kibuku village in Ntoroko district. Speaking at the emergency meeting held today {Thursday} at Kagadi district headquarters, Ruteraho disclosed that the deceased has been a cattle keeper in Mabaale Sub County in Kagadi district. She has asked residents to be vigilant and calls for maximum cooperation in order to curb the outbreak. ‘’We should be vigilant and cooperate to curb the outbreak,’’ Rutereho asked.
