FULL LIST: Best schools in Uganda with aggregates 8 in 2020 UCE Results  The Education Minister, Janet K Museveni on Friday released the 2020 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination results citing an improved performance in candidates, despite the Covid-19 pandemic effects. UNEB statistics indicated that the number of candidates overall decreased by 4,324 (-1.3%) from 337,720 in 2019 to 333,396. Of these, 148,128 (44.4%) were USE beneficiaries. The number of male candidates registered is 166,744 (50.01%) and that of females is 166,652 (49.99%). The difference is only 92 more males than females. 10 year old boy kills father in Rukungiri Kaceritvugnewsupdates UGJul 25, 2021 The Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which a 33-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his family members. The deceased is Pius Tugumisirize of Rwesigiro village, Kikarara parish in Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri district. According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, on Saturday 24th July 2021 at around 10 pm, the deceased developed a quarrel with his wife Ruth Owakubariho 29 where Tugumisirize hit the wife badly with a hoe on the head and bled furiously. After the incident, the man took off into hiding himself not knowing that his 10-year-old son had picked the same hoe used to hit the mother and followed him up. The son met him hiding, hit him on the head leaving him for dead. Museveni’s aunt dies at 97 President Museveni Sunday announced the death of one of his aunts, Kaaka Jiresi Keminagano. Jiresi, 97, died Saturday evening at Nakasaero Hospital in Kampala from conditions related to old age and long-time immobility in a wheelchair, according to a statement tweeted by the president on Sunday. “She will be buried at Rwakitura, tomorrow. Only very few people have been requested to conduct the burial in accordance with the COVID-19 regulations. The relatives, acquaintances, and friends, are requested not to try and congregate at the burial because it is dangerous and has no value addition,” Mr Museveni, 76, said.   President Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces has appointed Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new commander land forces in the UPDF. According to the changes announced on Thursday, Muhoozi who has been the Special Forces commander will now be replaced by Brig Peter Chandia who has been his deputy. At Bombo, the UPDF land forces headquarters, Kainerugaba replaces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu who has been appointed as the new deputy Chief of Defence Forces. The changes take immediate effect, according to Museveni’s message. Don’t expect full re-opening, Minister Speaks Out of Lockdown Lifting

Jul 23, 2021 Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has warned Ugandans not to expect the country to fully open up at the end of the current lockdown. He said that the cabinet is discussing modalities of how the country will gradually reopen for business but a full re-opening is not on the table. “We are on a countdown, about a week remaining on the lockdown but where we are now, we can not say open and everything goes to normal,” Baryomunsi said. Former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila has earned a Master's degree as he utilises his break from active politics to pursue higher education. The ex-Head of State got the certification from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa after he successfully defended his thesis. A statement from the institution confirmed that the former DRC President is now a a post-graduate alumnus. “Yes, he (Kabila) has finished his Master's degree," said Prof Tshilidzi Marwala, vice-chancellor of the university. According to the Army and Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, the soldier was killed in attempts to repulse at least 20 men who has attacked the Zeu Detach in Zombo District while disguised as forest workers. At least three other UPDF soldiers were injured and airlifted to the Bombo General Military Hospital for treatment. Byekwaso revealed that the Army managed to capture two of the attackers believed to belong to the CODECO rebel group, and also killed six of their colleagues in the 6am operation. So far, the floods have displaced hundreds of households in 11 sub-counties in Amolatar and submerged hundreds of acres of gardens. The lake is located about five kilometres away from Amolatar District headquarters but since last year when the water level on the lake started rising, floods started submerging the surrounding area. In some areas in Namasale Sub-county and Namasale Town Council, the water level has gone as far as three kilometres upland, according to the sub-county chairperson, Mr Rembo Onguu. “In Namasale Sub-county alone, about 400 households have been displaced and about 2,000 gardens have been submerged by floods.
