DANGER TO THEMSELVES: Drunkards Kills Colleague In Kitgum

Police in Kitgum district is holding two men for beating up another man on boxing day, allegedly leading to his death on January 2, 2022.

It is alleged that on December 26, 2021, while hanging out at a drinking joint in Lamuku Village, Ocetoke parish in Layamo sub-county, 56-year-old David Onek Kacuc, who is now deceased, Roland Opiyo, 27, suspect and Felix Ocen another suspect, got into a fight at the drinking joint.

The LCIII chairperson of Layamo sub-county, Thomas Ayella Situma, says Ocen and Opiyo, all from Pagen West Village beat up Onek for having a taste of their drink, without permission. After the fight, Onek went back to his home where he stays alone, but his condition worsened on January 1, a day before he passed on.

According to Ayella, when news came that the condition of the victim was worsening, the father to one of the suspects advised him to report the matter to Layamo police outpost, where he was given a letter to seek medical help at Kitgum General Hospital.

“Medical examination showed that he had a contusion in his lung and he was admitted at the government hospital, where he died on the night of January 2,” Ayella said, adding that one of the suspects, Opiyo, was immediately arrested while Ocen was handed over to police by the father.

He condemned the community for engaging in a wasteful lifestyle during festivities and advised the community against any harboring any thoughts of revenge attacks.

When contacted the police spokesperson for Aswa River Region, David Ongom Mudong said he had not yet recieved the report about the incident.

  Parents block Kasokero P/S HM from accessing school premises over drunkenness 10th Jan,2022 Kagadi As schools reopened today across the country, Parents of Kasokero government aided Primary school in Kyenzige town council Kagadi district blocked the school head teacher from accessing the school premises accusing him of incompetence. Parents accuse Peace Tumwine of being a drunkard thus neglecting school duties. The situation was brought to calm by the Kagadi District Education Officer who asked parents to put their concern into writing demanding for transfer of the head teacher.
