Bushenyi Chief Magistrate in trouble for being absent from office for two weeks

The Chief Magistrate of Bushenyi her Worship Jane Mugala may be in trouble for being absent from her office for two weeks now.

As a result of her absenteeism in the two weeks the Managing Director of Mknewslink.com Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante is languishing at Nyabuhikye government prison in Ibanda on remand since he cannot access bail or apply for bail since his court file has allegedly not been worked on or allocated by the Chief Magistrate to magistrates under her office.

Wilber Muhwezi was arrested some time back and was then remanded till 10th May 2021 to prison. When he appeared on  10th May 2021 was again remanded till 31st May 2021.

Efforts by his lawyer Paul Tusubira to apply for his bail have been frustrated since her Worship Mugala has reportedly been absent from office for weeks.

Tusubira and several local journalists have been visiting court only to find that they cannot be served to secure the release of Muhwezi.

Local journalists said Muhwezi’s situation has been made worse since he was remanded far in Ibanda district where his family and friends spend a lot of money and time to access him with necessities such as food.

Muhwezi (above in photo ) is one among many that have missed court services due to the absence of her Worship Mugala. Today the Eastafricanwatch.net journalist found court premises in Bushenyi jammed with several un served clients who sat in the court compound.

Efforts to reach the Mbarara resident Judge Mugala’s immediate supervisor were futile since he did not pick his phone. However our reporter managed to speak to the Judiciary spokesperson Jameson Karemani who said he would find out on the matter.

“I have just heard Her worship Mugala’s case, I will find out’ he said today.

Muhwezi is accused by senior counsel Deus Kamugisha of Trespass, Threatening violence, computer misuse and libel and it is alleged that the charges were committed way back in 2019.
