Uganda to host 2,000 Afghan refugees TUESDAY AUGUST 17 2021       State Minister for Disaster, Preparedness and Refugees, Ms Esther Anyakun addresses the media By Akankwasa Alphonse More by this Author Uganda is set to temporarily host 2,000 refugees from Afghanistan following the political unrest in the country. State minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Ms Esther Anyakun said on Tuesday that this follows a request by US government, which was granted by President Museveni. "We expect to host them temporarily before they can be relocated by US government. It was request from US government to His Excellency. We started the preparation yesterday," Ms Anyakun said today. She added that the first batch of about 500 Afghan refugees were expected August 16 but they didn’t arrive. "We are expecting- they might come any time since it’s an emergency landing. They have requested us to host 2,000. They will be received in shifts," she explained

According to the Criminal Investigations Division spokesperson, Charles Twine, the incident happened at Nkywamazi village, Bukuya town council in Kassanda district when family members left porridge on the charcoal stove to go to the garden and on return they took the porridge. It is alleged that a few minutes later, family members started vomiting but Moses Jesere, the head of the family died on the spot while the community members rushed the other families to hospital where they are receiving treatment. According to the Observer Newspaper, Museveni ordered the team to probe Oulanyah’s last 48 hours before his health abruptly deteriorated in June, prompting an emergency medical evacuation to the UK. Oulanyah’s health allegedly deteriorated a few days after assuming office as Parliament Speaker. Zombo Woman MP Afoyochan proposes each MP contributes Shs2m to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for students Aug 3, 2021 Zombo District Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Hon Afoyochan Esther has told parliament that the Ministry of Health should present to the House a COVID-19 vaccination plan for students across the country with the related costs. According to Hon Afoyochan, the vaccination budget will give the House enough and a proper calculation of how they can mobilise funds for the exercise. She then appealed to the House to collectively resolve that each MP contributes at least Shs2 million to support the purchase of the vaccines to facilitate students return to school.
